What an idea for a quilt.   That would be so lovely. 
The idea came from a comment on a post from this blog  Pretty By Hand. I love her blog and get so much inspiration. 

Shopping in someone else's closet.

This is the way to shop!!

A couple of weeks ago my friend Steve called and said that he was over at a friends house and she was going through her closet and giving away her clothes.  Before she gave them to Goodwill he was wondering if I wanted to go through them.  I thought that would be cool.  He brought over three large garbage bags.  That week I invited over my coworker Stephanie and we went through the clothes.   This is what we got.

My stack.

• 2 coats
• 1 sweater
• 7 shirts
• 2 long shorts
• 2 pairs of jeans  ( a size too small but going to the gym so they will fit soon)

 

Stephanie's Stack.

• Vest
• Hoodie
• 2 coats
• 2 pairs of jeans
• 4 short pants
• 5 sweaters
• 5 blouses.

 

Steph did find more than me but I already have a full closet so I was trying to get pieces I really liked.   I now seem to own a lot of black shirts.  lol

When all was said and done we still had two bags left to take to Goodwill where someone else will find treasures. 

2013 word : Follow-Through

I can't believe it's been over a month since i last posted and it was the 1st day of the year before that.   I will get to the photo above in a minute. 

I had a wonderful 2012.  I didn't post very much but I have been busy.    I am doing fantastic in my job and worked a lot of overtime the first half of the year.  I also have been doing multiple house sitting jobs.  It has brought in extra money that allowed me to make a big change I 

moved out.  I can't believe it.  I finally was ready to make the move both financially, emotionally and logically.  It took me over a year to get to that point but I knew i would love it once i did.    I will leave the details for another post.
I also have met someone new.  We had our first date on the anniversary of the death of my former boyfriend.  He is a widow and we both feel we had a little "help" in our meeting.  We moved slowly and we are in a wonderful space right now.    The future looks good. 

I have been enjoying my own apartment.  It took me six months to go through all of my stuff that had been in storage for the 6 or so years and stuff i have collected in my hope chest.  I have made many many trips to Goodwill and have finally found the balance I need with all my belongings.  I am sure i will weed out a bit more but now it's comfy cozy.   I am only 3 blocks from work but this winter has been hard on me again.   It gets dark so soon and we have had a lot of gray days in Jan and Feb.  It gets harder and harder on me every year.   But the sun was out yesterday all day and peeked out today.  

I wrote in my post on 1/1 that I had picked out a word for the year.  Well i wasn't quite telling the truth- I had multiple possibilities but had not yet found one that fit.  Then I found it:  Follow-through.  My word for 2012 was Intentions  and 2011 was Encompassing.  The last two years was finding myself.  I now want to follow  through on those discoveries.   I also have some projects going that i want to finish and thought that having this as my word of the year would help keep me on track.  I thought it would even keep me on track with this blog.  It can either be known as one word or two words but it fits what I want to accomplish this year.  2013 is going to be a year of projects.

I want to also update my blog with all my interests.  That will be my goal.  I will also be updating my pages.  So keep in touch.

Back at my house for a night.

  I love the extra money I make house-sitting but sure miss my house.  I have not taken my computer with me so I have not posted since the 1st day of 2013.  Will do a longer post when I return. Here is a photo of my towels.  I love flowers..  Posting from my recently new android phone.  Lots to learn.  Lol

Happy 2013 to everyone.

Based on the theory that what ever you do on New Years Day you will do the rest of your year I am trying to have a full day. I have sewed, done embroidery, shopped, spent time with my boyfriend, spent time with friends and enjoyed my comfy red chair in my own apartment. The only things I wish I wasn't doing is putting oil in the car and coming down with a cold. Hope everyone has a wonderful year!!!!

Another thing I want to do in 2013 is update my blog. I want to document my life and show what I have done. I have had enormous changes in my life in the last year including getting my own apartment.  I now have all of my things around me.
I have decided on my new word  for the year and I will be following up with that. 
Off to do more “things” on the first day of this brand new Year.

What happened in my world this week... Really feeling “relaxed” in my apartment and that it’s my own.

An April update.

I have been MIA haven’t I.
Where have I been you ask?  I don’t really have an answer.   Mostly I have been working, sleeping and I  don’t know what else.  I can’t believe B it’s been over a month since I last posted.
It seems that work has been sucking the life out of me.  Just like aliens have been taking all my energy..   I get home and I just can’t do anything.   I haven’t worked on any quilting.  I have to write a speech for Toastmasters and I keep putting it off.   I have been working on my small rug for my doll house but I haven’t done much more than that.
I have been watching a lot of tv series on DVD.  I have fallen in love with Drop Dead Diva.   I just today watched the first shows of Veronica Mars.  I wasn’t sure on the pilot but it has gotten better.  I have watched Garrow’s Law and I am on the third series of Bramwell.
It has also been a month of record rainfall here in Oregon.  The days have also been very GRAY.  That has been the hardest thing or me this year.    So gray it doesn’t want me to do anything.    I don’t have the energy to get the quilts out and work on them.  I could get so much out if I could just get it out but It just seems just to much work.
I didn’t update the progress on my UFO’s from Judy’s UFO Challenge from the Patchwork Times.    For February – I haven’t even cut anything out so that is not yet completed.  For March the number picked was # 8 which was Kenny’s quilt.  I have given it no thought. 
Today the number picked for April was #10.   This is the quilt I am going monthly to Quilting Delights to get the pattern.  I have been going since November and I haven’t even cut a single piece for it.   No excuse really – just nervous to make that first cut in all the beautiful fabric.
Hopefully I will do something in the month of April. Let’s keep our fingers and toes crossed.
Another thing that I have been reading a lot about in blogs lately is Copyright issues  and how some people feel it’s getting out of control in the quilting world.  I do believe that to a point.  I can understand if someone uses the photo of their quilt or design for promotion purpose and does not give credit or compensation.  But I feel it’s going too far if you are using someone’s line of fabric in your design and you show it on your blog and you claim it’s a copyrighted fabric design and try to have them stop using it.  For me that is going to far.  Why else would you design fabric other for it to be used?  That’s all I am going to say on that for now.   There are so many sides and so many opinions – so if you want to learn more search the issue on the internet and make your own opinion.   I am just sorry that a craft that a lot of people do for creativity release and pure pleasure has turned into such a minefield of touchy subjects.
It’s Sunday night again.. I am off to watch the CMA’s and the spring break song “Red Solo Cup”
